Newsgroups Setup for Outlook Express

1.    Open Outlook Express as you usually do.

2.    Click on “Tools” at the top of the screen

3.    Choose “Accounts” from the pop-up screen

4.    Click on the “News” tab

5.   If there is a newsgroup account already listed in this box, click on it once to highlight it and then click the "remove" button to the right.

6.   Click the "Add" button.

7.   Click "News"

8.   Add your name in the textbox and click "Next"

9.   Add your e-mail address in the textbox and click "Next"

10. The name of the News (NNTP) Server is:   news1.mwsi.net   Type this into the textbox in all lower case letters.  *

11. Make sure there is NOT a check in the box at the bottom of this window.  If there is a check, click once on the check to remove it.

12. Click "Next" and then click "Finish"

13. Click the "Close" button.

14. You will be given a prompt asking if you would like to download newsgroups from the news account you added.  Click "Yes" and the group list will download.

15. You will be given a list of the available newsgroups. **

16. To subscribe to a newsgroup, click once on the name of the group to highlight it and then click the "subscribe" button to the right.

Once you have subscribed to a group, you will see the name of the group in your folders list (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, etc.).  Double click the group name you would like to access and the newsgroup message board will open up.

To post a message to the group, click on the "New Post" button which will be in your Outlook Express tool bar.


To unsubscribe to a newsgroup, click once on the list name in your news folder to highlight it and then right click it.  Click "unsubscribe."
